Construction of Washington DC Bridge is expected in 2021

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture is a Dutch architectural firm based in Rotterdam, founded in 1975 by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and Greek architect Elia Zenghelis, along with Madelon Vriesendorp and Zoe Zenghelis.

After an architectural competition held in 2014, the firm has been hired to design a bridge in collaboration with WRA and Delon Hampton and Associates. The project is located at Washington DC which is called 11th street Bridge Park.

The project comprises a unique x shaped design which includes parks, viewing points and educational centers. The construction of the project is expected to begin in 2021.However, OMA has not shared expected physical dimensions yet of the bridge.

The bridge will be constructed on top of the existing structural piles of an original bridge after checking their load bearing capacity through latest testing equipment. The bridge features two large elevated ramps for pedestrians. These ramps will feature viewing points and will lead up to waterfalls planned to maintain the indoor temperature.

There will be kids play areas, education center, garden areas, entertainment center and cafeteria. The project comprises rainwater collection and purification unit, solar panels are planned to fulfil energy requirement for the whole area.
